Dangerous grilled cheese cooking hack divides TikTok users: 'You're kidding, right?'

While many hailed the hack as a “game-changer,” others pointed out that it’s actually pretty dangerous.

A cooking hack for simplifying the grilled cheese-making process is dividing TikTok users.

On Feb. 2, TikTok user @DonnaBonnana shared a trick that her husband Patrick uses whenever he makes grilled cheese sandwiches on the stove.

Instead of using the spatula to flip the sandwich over in the pan, Patrick picks the sandwich up with the spatula and flips the pan over so the sandwich doesn’t lose its shape or fall apart.

“Hey guys! I was today years old when I learned how to flip a grilled cheese from my husband,” @DonnaBonnana says as Patrick picks up the pan and safely turns his grilled cheese over.

Patrick’s grilled cheese hack quickly went viral with 3.6 million views and more than 400,000 likes. However, while many hailed it as a “game-changer,” others pointed out that it’s actually pretty dangerous (and doesn’t really save that much time or effort).

“Quick question for you: What is happening in your life that this has become a difficult task? Something to think about,” user @FireDeptChronicles joked as he flipped his grilled cheese the normal way, poking fun at @DonnaBonnana and Patrick. He also used the hashtag #greasefire, alluding to the fact that if there’s any oil or butter in the pan and you flip it over, you can set the entire house on fire.

“How to start an oil fire,” one person commented.

“The fire department is about to get a lot of calls,” another added.

“You’re kidding, right?” a third wrote.

If you give your grilled cheese a nice crispy browning by coating it in mayonnaise or butter, then you can probably use this hack without worrying about a grease fire. However, if you prefer to cook grilled cheese by melting butter or heating olive oil in the pan first, you should never flip the pan, especially not above a hot flame.

Fry your food without the guilt:
