Curtis Blaydes vs. Alexander Volkov to headline UFC Fight Night on June 20

The UFC has announced the rest of its cards for the month of June, and they feature some heavy hitters up top.

A heavyweight bout between Curtis Blaydes and Alexander Volkov will be the main event for UFC Fight Night on June 20, taking place at the UFC’s Apex arena. Before them will be Josh Emmett vs. Shane Burgos and more.

As for Fight Night on June 27, lightweights Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker top the card.

Per ESPN, both main events had been previously in the works before the ongoing coronavirus pandemic shut down the sports world and put a wrench in the UFC’s plans.

Poirier will be coming off a loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight championship after winning the interim belt against Max Holloway. He’ll face an opponent on a three-fight win streak, with Hooker most recently beating Paul Felder in February.

Blaydes could be in line for a title shot soon if he tops Volkov, though whom that opponent could be is still up in the air with Stipe Miocic facing Daniel Cormier for a third time in August and Francis Ngannou also looming with four straight victories.

While UFC just sorted out the rest of June, its July is already very clear. UFC 251 at Fight Island (aka tourist attraction Yas Island in Abu Dhabi) will feature a whopping three title fights, headlined by Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns. Three more Fight Nights will follow as UFC starts working through a roster of international fighters who have been unable to participate in recent events due to the pandemic.
