Cowboys to play Steelers in 2021 Hall of Fame game

The Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers are making up for last year's postponement. The two teams will kick off NFL preseason play in August at the 2021 Hall of Fame game.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame made the announcement Monday. The matchup is a reset of the scheduled 2020 game, which was canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cowboys and Steelers will meet Aug. 5 at 8 p.m. ET.

The NFL canceled the entire preseason due to health and safety reasons. The league managed to play every single game during the regular season in 2020, but dealt with postponements and COVID-19 outbreaks throughout the year.

NFL allowing fans to attend 2021 Hall of Fame game ... for now

The NFL is planning on fans being able to attend the 2021 Hall of Fame game ... for now, at least. The league made a ticket package available Monday that includes tickets to the game, a tailgate party and a pass to see the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Those tickets cost $299 per person. The game will be held at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

Some aspects of that ticket package may change as a result of COVID-19. The league notes "local health and safety guidelines" will determine whether every event goes off as planned. If things are still deemed unsafe due to the pandemic, some events could be held virtually, the NFL warns.

Multiple COVID-19 vaccines are being distributed in the United States, and COVID-19 cases are currently in decline. By opening up tickets now, the NFL is hoping the pandemic's downward trend will continue as more people in the country receive vaccinations.
