Couple spends $100,000 to convert school bus into luxury mobile home

A couple from the U.K. transformed a classic yellow American school bus into a stunning home. Now the couple is offering up the upcycled mobile home through a raffle.

Lucy Stevens, a nanny, and Glen Carloss, a tattoo artist, always wanted to convert a big bus. In 2019, the couple had a school bus shipped from New York to England.

“We both shared the same dream of owning a big vehicle to do a road trip for a year or longer,” Stevens told Newsflare. “I’ve always been obsessed with Grand Designs so to achieve something like that, to totally transform something into a liveable home for someone, it’s mad.”

Stevens and Carloss spent $100,000 to clean up and renovate the vehicle. It still had students’ toys, school uniforms and paperwork inside when they received it. The couple spruced up the joint by adding a movie room, bathroom, fireplace, kitchen and workspace. It took about a year to complete the process.

“We worked so hard on it, it’s been blood, sweat and tears just because we’d never taken on anything like that before… and how we achieved the look we wanted to achieve, I’m really proud of it,” Stevens told Good News Network.

Despite the hard work, they’re raffling the bus off in the U.K. along with $1,390 for the necessary category C-license to drive it and six months of free storage. But the couple hasn’t given up their school bus living yet, Stevens and Carloss are already renovating a second school bus. They plan to tour America and Canada in it, then rent it out as an Airbnb.
