You don’t know the beauty of a simple meat thermometer until you have one. Rather than cutting open steaks to see if they’re done or crossing your fingers that the chicken is cooked through, a thermometer will give you absolute certainty with a quick poke. However, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on one. In fact, you can get the Qisebin Digital Meat Thermometer on Amazon while it’s on sale for $8.49.

To use this thermometer, first stick it into the thickest part of the meat you’re cooking. Then, in as little as three seconds, the thermometer will display the meat’s temperature. The device has a large, easy-to-read LCD screen, so you can read the results whether you’re in bright sunlight or grilling at night. You can also use it while you deep fry, roast and bake or use it with beverages, hot oil and more.

This thermometer is also waterproof, so if you drop it in the sink, there’s no need to freak out. Of course, you don’t want to put it in the dishwasher or totally submerge it underwater. However, you can wipe it with a soapy cloth and rinse it to clean.

It’s important to note that the Qisebin Meat Thermometer is relatively new, so it doesn’t have thousands of reviews on Amazon just yet. However, 81% of reviewers so far give it 5 out of 5 stars.

“The unit came ready to go with the battery installed,” wrote one Amazon reviewer. “It’s on the larger side, which at first I thought I wouldn’t like, but actually, the larger size allows two things to happen. First, it allows for a large display, which is easy to read. And second, I can reach the meat on the grill without taking the meat off or burning myself.”

In addition to its larger size, the thermometer is also magnetic. You can stick it to the fridge or the side of your grill when you’re not using it.

Getting a meat thermometer doesn’t mean you’re a bad cook. Actually, it may make you a slightly better one. Try this thermometer out while it’s less than $10! What do you have to lose?
