Companies to Watch: Amazon under investigation, Bank of NY Mellon tops earnings, CSX falls short in Q2

Here are the companies Yahoo Finance is watching today.

Amazon (AMZN) is now facing a formal antitrust investigation in Europe. Officials there are looking into whether the e-commerce giant is using data from independent merchants, who sell on the site, to compete against them. Amazon says it will "cooperate fully" with the investigation.

A mixed quarter at Bank of New York Mellon (BK). The financial services company beat on earnings, and revenue was roughly in-line with estimates. However, that revenue was down 5% from a year ago, as they collected fewer fees and lower interest income. The CEO blamed "muted market activity" as well as the "level and shape of the yield curve."

A weak quarter at CSX (CSX). The railroad operator came in short on the top and bottom lines and now expects revenue to be down 1% to 2% for the full year. The CEO blames "unusual" global economic conditions and called the current economic situation "one of the most puzzling" he's ever experienced.

The U.S. Department of Justice is asking a federal appeals court to pause enforcement of the May antitrust ruling against Qualcomm (QCOM), which would force the company to change how it licenses patents. Both the Departments of Defense and Energy are supporting the chip-maker, saying the case threatens 5G innovation — and national security.

Elon Musk’s brain-computer startup, Neuralink, is set to start trials with human patients next year. The company, which is looking to bridge tech and health care, has announced plans to implant bluetooth-connected tech into patients' brains using a custom machine. Nueralink is still seeking FDA approval, but Musk hopes this technology will help treat many different neurological conditions.
