Comm Games power protection for Qld rail

Southeast Queensland's rail network has been protected against power outages ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

A $13 million, 23-tonne substation in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley will effectively split the fail network's power supply in two, meaning trains can keep running in the event of major power failure.

Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the project had been completed in time for the Commonwealth Games in April, which was expected to put significant pressure on the southeast rail network.
