Comedian Russell Peters Lists Triple-Story Studio City Home (EXCLUSIVE)

SELLER: Russell Peters
LOCATION: Studio City, CA
PRICE: $2,999,999
SIZE: 5,857 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms plus guesthouse

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A digital communiqué from a saucy snitch who identified herself — we kid you not — as Helena Handbasket kindly alerted us to what she fearlessly and rather unflatteringly described as a “clunky and grotesquely articulated” residence in the foothills above Studio City, CA, that’s owned by slightly under the radar but none-the-less exceptionally well-compensated comedian Russell Peters and newly listed at $2,999,999, an asking price otherwise known as exactly $3 million.

In a world where a not particularly interesting but preternaturally photogenic reality television star like Kim Kardashian can get almost 47 million people to willingly follow her every sigh and semi-naked selfie on Twitter, Mister Peters doesn’t exactly register as a household name. However, make no mistake, butter beans, he’s straight up comedy royalty who, with 1.27 million Twitter followers of his own, sells out vast performance arenas around the world including London’s O2 Arena, the Sydney Opera House, and the 19,000-seat Barclays Center in Brooklyn. If that’s not convincing of his status at the tippyety-top of the joke slinger heap, the tireless income tabulators at Forbes estimated Mister Peters earns a decidedly A-List income with a 2015 take of around $19 million, down from his 2013 haul of somewhere in the neighborhood of $21 million.

Property records show Mister Peters, who in 2014 served as a judge on season 8 of “Last Comic Standing,” purchased the three-story Studio City residence in question in July 2009 for $1.96 million and current listing details show the 5,857-square-foot, hillside residence, billed as a “stunning contemporary” in online listings but, frankly, of undeterminable architectural pedigree as far as this property gossip can tell, sits well above the street on a double-lot of nearly half-an-acre with five bedrooms and six bathrooms. A detached guesthouse near the swimming pool that’s set into a terrace carved from the steep slope behind the house has another bedroom and bathroom.

Most if not all public rooms appear to open off the sky-light-topped, triple height central foyer and stair hall that’s gutsily painted navy blue and features, among other decorative knickknacks and curiosities, several artworks that depict silhouettes of guns. The living room features a built-in wet bar lined with shimmering, bachelor pad screaming stainless steel tiles; the family room is furnished with little more than fitness equipment and a couple of console video games; and the black carpeted and blood-red walled home theater has seven black leather theater recliners on tiered platforms. The kitchen is certainly contemporary with high-gloss taupe-colored stone tile flooring, simple but no doubt costly snow-white cabinetry topped with deliciously extra thick marble slabs, name brand stainless steel appliances, a minimalist light fixture over the over-sized center island, and a downright nutty and, by our utterly meaningless opinion, ill-advised stainless steel hood over the range in the shape of an upside down question mark. The adjoining dining area has built-in cabinetry with integrated television and French doors to a covered dining terrace with open views over the San Fernando Valley end of Coldwater Canyon.

All bedrooms have attached bathrooms, per listing details, and the top-floor master suite, which includes a sauna in its sleekly appointed bathroom, additionally has a corner fireplace, small balcony that cantilevers over the driveway three stories below, and a windowed walk-in closet/dressing room kitted out with center island dresser and generous bank of floor-to-ceiling shoe shelves. Listing details state the double-gated semi-circular drive and motor court will accommodate 10 or more cars on top of the four that can be parked in a pair of two-car garages that flank the front door and also that the residence is equipped with comprehensive, state-of-the-art home automation wiring that controls the lighting, audio, and security systems.

Our research reveals Mister Peters, who was reported in 2014 to scoot around town in a Bentley, presides over a real estate portfolio that contains at least four residential properties over and above the Studio City house he’s looking to unload. In Las Vegas he maintains a 2-bedroom and 2-bathroom, mid-floor condo in a high-rise complex at the northern end of the Strip picked up in August 2011 for $245,000 and in nearby Henderson he owns a 4,052-square-foot tract house in an affluent if otherwise unremarkable gated development purchased in 2007 for $710,000. Back in Los Angeles property records indicate he owns a 3,954-square-foot, Beaver Cleaver-style Colonial in Woodland Hills bought in August 2012 for $1.46 million as well as an 8,633-square-foot quasi-Mediterranean mansion set behind gates on 1.35 ocean-view acres in Malibu acquired in April 2014 for $4.75 million. He previously owned a home just outside of Toronto, Canada, in the suburban city of Vaughan near his hometown of Brampton, but it appears that house was sold several years ago and we confess we haven’t a clue whether he bought another home in the area.
