Colts punter Rigoberto Sanchez will punt just 2 weeks after having cancerous tumor removed

Indianapolis Colts punter Rigoberto Sanchez should get a massive ovation from fans Sunday. Sanchez will return to the field to punt just two weeks after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic.

Sanchez, 26, revealed his diagnosis Nov. 30. He had surgery to remove the tumor the following day. Sanchez did not reveal the location of the tumor, but said the Colts caught it early enough to make sure the cancer didn’t spread.

After having the surgery, Sanchez missed the team’s Dec. 7 game against the Houston Texans and the team’s Dec. 13 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Sanchez returned to practice Wednesday, and was able to perform his duties without limitations. He told reporters he was grateful to be back with the team.

Sanchez was listed as a full participant in practice throughout the week, leading to his return. The Colts will play the Texans at home Sunday.

Colts will have limited fans at Sunday’s game against Texans

There’s a chance Sanchez will get a nice ovation from Colts fans Sunday. The team has hosted fans at a limited capacity in 2020. For Sunday’s game, however, fewer fans will be allowed in the stadium as Indiana deals with a COVID-19 surge.

The Colts initially were allowing 12,500 fans to attend games. That figure will decrease to 10,000 for Sunday’s game against the Texans. The Colts announced that news Monday, saying the team’s decision was made after consulting with the Marion County Public Health Department.
