How to do the ‘What color is your name?’ quiz on TikTok

A woman with synesthesia created a program that allows you to see your name through her eyes.

What is inflation and what causes it?

Synesthesia is a neurological condition that causes the overlapping of the senses. That means synesthetes have combined senses that make them hear colors or see words.

Symone reflects on the epic year she's had since winning "RuPaul's Drag Race":

According to Psychology Today, “When one sense is activated, another unrelated sense is activated at the same time. This may, for instance, take the form of hearing music and simultaneously sensing the sound as swirls or patterns of color.”

Bernadette Sheridan, who has synesthesia, created synesthesia.me, a program that allows you to plug in your name to reveal what color each letter looks like in Sheridan’s synesthesia.

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve seen letters and numbers as colors. It’s a form of synesthesia called grapheme-color synesthesia, and for me, this translating from symbols to colors happens most often with names,” Sheridan wrote on her website.

“When I meet new people, I forget their name immediately. Don’t get me wrong, I hear the name, but my mind is distracted. In my head, I am counting the number of letters in the name and visualizing the colors of each letter.”

It’s important to note that the colors, symbols, etc., associated with senses in synesthetes are unique to each individual. So your name may very well appear differently to another person with synesthesia.

For example, TikToker @lisa.mckinley has synesthesia, and she uses paintings to express how names appear to her.

To use synesthesia.me, visit the website, type in your name and watch the colors appear.
