A Coles customer has revealed how Aussies can get money off their grocery shop or even be on the way to score a free flight with a gift card hack from the major supermarket. Coles is currently running a Flybuys points deal for its Coles Mastercard gift cards.
Until Tuesday, January 21, shoppers can earn 2,000 Flybuys points when they purchase a Coles Mastercard gift card worth $100 or $250. These points can then be redeemed for money off your shop or converted into Velocity Points and redeemed for flights or upgrades.
A Coles spokesperson told Yahoo Finance the deal was capped at five gift cards per Flybuys account and encouraged those wanting to take advantage to get in quickly.

“Our customers are loving this Coles Mastercard gift card deal as it’s a great money-saving hack and can boost Flybuys balances by up to 10,000 points, which is the equivalent of $50 off their shop,” the spokesperson said.
“We encourage those wanting to take advantage of this offer to get in quickly because it’s available only while stocks last.”
There is a $5 fee for the $100 card and $7 fee for the $250 card.
You can earn 1 Flybuys point per dollar spent on the gift cards. That means a $100 card will earn you a total of 2,105 points, and five of the $100 cards will earn you 10,525 points.
2,000 Flybuys points can be redeemed for $10 off your shop.

‘Brilliant’: Aussie shares hack online
Coles shopper Luke, who shares travel tips and deals online under the name SavvyNotStingy, shared he was taking advantage of the Coles gift card deal.
“I picked up five of the $250 cards, which means I’ll get 11,250 Flybuys points which converts into 5,625 Velocity points,” he shared in a video online.
“These Coles Mastercards can be used pretty much everywhere. You can also use them to pay your HECS or ATO bills, there’s now no fees associated with that from the 1st of January this year.”
Luke said 5,900 to 8,000 Velocity points would currently get you a flight from Sydney to Melbourne, while 22,300 points could get you a flight from Melbourne to Bali when booking reward seats.
He noted it would be better value to buy the $100 gift cards as you paid less in fees for the same amount of bonus points.
He said he would probably use the gift cards to buy more gift cards, which could be done at Woolworths or discounted gift card websites. The gift cards cannot be used to purchase more Coles gift cards.
