China reports 39 new coronavirus cases on Oct 27 vs 59 day ago

BEIJING, Oct 28 (Reuters) - China reported 39 new confirmed coronavirus cases for Oct. 27 compared with 59 a day earlier, the country's health authority said on Thursday.

Of the new infections, 23 were locally transmitted cases, according to a statement by the National Health Commission, compared with 50 a day earlier.

Most of the new local cases were found in the north of China, with infections reported in Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, the country's capital Beijing, and Heilongjiang.

One new case was also reported in Shandong in the east and Sichuan in the southwest, respectively.

China reported 31 new asymptomatic patients, which it classifies separately from confirmed cases, compared with 26 a day earlier.

There were no new deaths, leaving the death toll unchanged at 4,636.

As of Oct. 27, mainland China had 96,938 confirmed coronavirus cases. (Reporting by Ryan Woo; Editing by Himani Sarkar)
