Chelsea were made to work hard for a place in the FA Cup fifth round as Frank Lampard’s Blues saw off Luton Town 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday thanks to a Tammy Abraham hat-trick.

With Lampard under huge pressure heading into the cup tie, the last thing the Chelsea boss will have wanted to see was heavy snow falling in west London ahead of the visit of Championship opposition.

Thankfully for Chelsea, the conditions eased off before kick-off - and two goals from Abraham inside the opening 16 minutes left the Blues in control of the tie.

Luton were hanging on at times, but the visitors were handed a lifeline as Kepa Arrizabalaga could only palm a Jordan Clark volley into his own net on the half-hour mark.

As the snow began to fall again at the Bridge, Luton held firm at the start of the second half before growing in confidence.

Kepa made a vital one-on-one save to redeem himself for the first-half error, and Abraham bagged his third goal with 16 minutes left to make the win safe.

There was still time for Timo Werner to win a penalty, but the summer signing missed the spot-kick as his wait for a goal goes on despite an encouraging performance.

While the result wasn’t pretty, it will ease the pressure on Lampard for now and keep the Blues on track for cup success.
