Cavs guard Kevin Porter Jr. suspended a game for making improper contact with official

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie guard Kevin Porter Jr. has been suspended one game by the NBA after making improper contact with an official during Sunday’s game.

The incident occurred near the end of the Cavaliers’ 131-111 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Porter made contact with an official after he was disappointed about a missed foul call, according to Sam Amico of Sports Illustrated.

Porter’s contact didn’t get much attention Sunday night, possibly because fans didn’t notice it during the game. As Porter is running back on defense, he bumps shoulders with the official.

You can debate whether the contact by Porter was intentional, but he league has already made its decision. While it’s easy to think Porter simply ran by the ref and accidentally bumped him, the NBA felt differently after reviewing the footage.

Because of that, Porter will not be available when the Cavaliers take on the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. In six games, the 19-year-old Porter is averaging 5.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
