Carmelo Anthony reportedly won't debut for Portland before Tuesday, missing early Houston reunion

New Portland Trailblazers acquisition Carmelo Anthony won’t make his debut for the team until at least Tuesday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday afternoon.

Anthony still needs to complete his physical in order to finalize his one-year deal with Portland, but could do so Saturday, Wojnarowski added.

Sitting out until Tuesday means Anthony will miss his first chance to play against the Houston Rockets — his former team that cut him a year ago — when the Blazers head to Texas Monday.

Off to a 4-8 start this season, Portland reportedly signed the 10-time NBA All-Star to a non-guaranteed deal Thursday. Anthony, 35, played in 10 games last season for Houston, averaging 29.4 minutes, 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game before getting released.

He spent the 2017-18 season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the prior seven years with the New York Knicks.

Beyond Monday’s matchup, Portland is scheduled to head to Houston again on Jan. 15, then host the Rockets Jan. 29 and March 15. Provided Anthony sticks around, we’re looking forward to the inevitable spice.
