You can now use PayPal to pay for your car rego, and 17 other things

From car registration to rent, it’s becoming easier and easier for Aussies to pay for things.

Customers these days can purchase goods with a touch, a tap or a swipe, whether they’re making the purchase online or in person – and now this convenience extends to your bills.

In a move designed to “enhance the customer experience” and respond to customer demand, the NSW government has announced a partnership with PayPal, meaning that those who pay their bills to or deal with Service NSW will have the option to pay via their PayPal details instead.

“Millions of NSW citizens already have PayPal accounts so it makes sense to offer this payment option for government transactions,” NSW minister for finance, services and property Victor Dominello said.

What can I now pay for through PayPal?

At the moment, only Roads and Maritime Services bills and transactions can be paid for with PayPal through the Services NSW website and app.

It’s the first cab off the rank, with state government looking to eventually have all NSW government services payable with PayPal.

In total, there are over 1000 possible transactions you can make through Service NSW consisting of 40 government agencies.

Here’s the full list of what you can pay or so far:

  • Renew a vehicle registration

  • Renew a NSW Driver Licence

  • Reprint a NSW Driver Licence Receipt

  • Renew a vehicle registration (pensioner)

  • Replace a NSW Driver Licence online

  • Replace a vehicle’s registration certificate

  • Pay a penalty or reminder notice

  • Renew or restore a vessel registration

  • Renew a general boat licence (not PWC)

  • Renew a recreational fishing licence

  • Renew an individual contractor’s licence

  • Pay for Housing NSW Water

  • Pay for Housing NSW Repairs

  • Renew a private mooring licence

  • Pay for Housing NSW Miscellaneous Items

  • Replace a vessel’s registration certificate

  • Pay for a Housing NSW Vacated Account

  • Pay for Housing NSW rent
