What’s ‘butter, fly, butterfly’ on TikTok?

TikTok is fascinated with an emoji filter that they’ve turned into the guessing game “butter, fly, butterfly.”

The filter “TapTap BFB” has a simple feature. It makes emojis of a blue butterfly, a yellow stick of butter and a brown housefly appear in a randomized order. This has prompted people to turn the filter into a game by trying to get the emojis in the order “butter, fly, butterfly.”

People usually play the game in pairs and pass the phone back and forth. Each person takes a turn trying to get the correct order of emojis. The player can keep going as long as they appear in the right order.

So, for example, if you don’t get butter as your first emoji, you have to pass it along. Another added bit of fun is the high-pitched voice filter that players get during the challenge.

TikToker Maddie Kiser and her friend played a round of the game. The video racked up 9.6 million views and 1.5 million likes.

The couple @ellieandjordann played but couldn’t get it right even once.

User @morgracoop tried to get her mom to play, but there was definitely a learning curve for the rules.

Meanwhile, @brysontiller_11 and his friend completely struggled to get any emojis correct throughout the whole game.
