The former Australian Greens leader Bob Brown denies his new job will damage Tasmania's economy.
The recently retired Senator has been appointed to the board of the environmental group Markets for Change.
Former Tasmanian Greens leader Peg Putt is the organisation's new chief executive.
The State Opposition's Peter Gutwein says the organisation has sabotaged the state's economy by campaigning against veneer producer Ta Ann Tasmania.
"Bob Brown and Peg Putt are going to take away the jobs of ordinary Tasmanians," he said.
Mr Brown says the organisation protects jobs by protecting Tasmania's clean green brand.
"Tasmania's got so much going for it in terms of its produce and international markets and attracting people here for its wild and scenic beauty," he said.
"It needs to be genuine, it needs to be authentic and it needs to make sure that there aren't people out there who are degrading that brand and advertising falsely."
