Bride shares wedding items that were not 'worth the money': 'At the end of the day, they go in the trash'

A former bride is hoping to save couples some money by sharing the wedding items she bought but didn’t find worth it.

Brooke McConnell (@ryanandbrooke) is joining the TikTok trend of pointing out how expensive the wedding process is. While other users have explained how they lessened the financial pressure on their bridesmaids, McConnell focuses on what brides really don’t need on the big day — despite what many people may say.

Watch this bland Brooklyn bedroom become a mid-century modern escape in just one day:

“I’m gonna make a list of the items that were just not worth it,” McConnell said in the clip. “The first one being my wedding shoes.”

In a background photo, McConnell shared that she wore a pair of Jimmy Choo heels for her wedding. According to Jimmy Choo’s bridal website, the cheapest pair of heels is $695, and the most expensive is $4,700.

“No one ever saw them,” McConnell pointed out.

McConnell also bought wedding sneakers for the reception, thinking she would wear them again.

“They are trashed,” she said. “There’s a pair that literally looks identical for $80 at Dillard’s, so don’t do it.”

The next thing on her list was day-of wedding perfume. Wedding site The Knot writes that because fragrance is a “major memory trigger,” it’s “important” to invest in a signature perfume for the day.

“People were like, ‘Get your wedding scent and make it worth it,'” she said. “No one could smell it by the time I was at the wedding, [my husband] Ryan never noticed it — was not worth it.”

McConnell chose Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540 perfume. Based on the photo she shared, it looks like she picked the 2.4-ounce size, which retails at $435.

Another item was her wedding pajamas.

“My feathered pajamas were medium-priced, but I still would’ve gotten the cheaper one on Etsy because I will literally never wear them again,” she said.

It wasn’t clear what brand of pajamas McConnell wore, but in a follow-up TikTok, she answered that they were from Bon Viviann. A white feathered set from the brand is $130.

One thing McConnell was on the fence about was whether printed wedding invitations were worth it too.

“I was glad I spent a lot of money because people were really excited about them, but at the end of the day, they go in the trash,” she said.

Commenters loved McConnell’s transparency about the financial aspect of her wedding, and some even shared their advice for future brides and grooms.

“Save your cash for photos and videos that you’ll still have and enjoy for the next 50 years,” one person wrote.

“I spent a lot on shoes,” another agreed. “The only reason was to wear them later. I used my wedding to justify them.”

“Totally agree [about the shoes]!” a commenter said. “Check out [second]-hand shoes for weddings. I got Manolos from The RealReal for 90% off. Best of both worlds!”
