Brandon Blackwood shines on the cover of In The Know’s Luxury issue — shop all the bags now

Right in time for September — the kickoff of Fashion Month and, this year, the Met Gala — In The Know’s September cover star is none other than Brandon Blackwood! If you’re not familiar with Blackwood and his viral bags, it’s time to learn.

Shot by Shaniqwa Jarvis in a PeerSpace location in Fort George, N.Y., the shoot (of course) featured an assortment of bags from the Blackwood line. Although it’s known as a luxury brand, Blackwood specifies that luxury is more than just what you wear or have in your closet. “Luxury, to me, is more of a feeling than the actual material thing,” the designer shared with In The Know’s Editor-at-Large, Elaine Welteroth.

Of course, the idea of Blackness in luxury is still a new concept to some. Blackwood commented, “Whenever I thought of luxury, it was always a white person in a white ad by a white company; that was luxury to me. And, although they’re still great brands that I love even today, I think the idea of a Black person kind of taking up that space and having luxury be their narrative is very, very different and a little wild to people.”
