Yahoo Finance BMW unveils top-of-the-line electric 7 Series sedan, the i7
Move over Tesla Model S (TSLA) and Mercedes-Benz EQS (MGB.DE), a new top of the line electric sedan is here.
BMW (BMW.DE) took the wraps off its all-new top-of-the-line 7 Series, with three new models, including an electric version for the first time.
Dubbed the i7 xDrive60, the all-wheel drive EV version features two electric motors with a combined output of 536 horsepower and 549 lb-ft of torque. The car can hit 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, BWM says, and will have an estimated range of 300 miles.
The i7 is BMW's third EV, following the release of the i4 sedan and the new iX SUV.
The new 7 series features an updated exterior styling scheme, with less aggressive kidney grills up front and a thinner, sleeker front headlight housing. BMW says this front updated fascia will be featured only on its higher end models going forward.
Underneath the angular skin of the i7, lies oodles of new tech that BMW likes to showcase on its upper end models. Under the dash is a new, curved glass display screen which consists of a 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel, and a 14.9-inch control display screen under the center console.
BMW's "Interaction Bar" also debuts in the new 7 series, which BMW describes as a "control/operation and design element" that extends across the full width of the instrument panel and well into the door panel trim that houses touch-sensitive control panels for adjusting the ventilation and climate control.
The technology and comfort extends to the back as well, where an "Executive Lounge" option brings reclining seats with integrated leg rests. The seats and interior cabin surfaces can be swathed in luxurious materials like leather and cashmere.
Also in the back of the cabin is the showstopper, first-of-its-kind 31-inch 8K touchscreen display that can be dropped form the car's ceiling, dubbed the "BMW Theater Screen." The optional Theater Screen is powered by Amazon Fire TV and can use all of the popular streaming and video game apps.
When BMW Theater Screen is engaged, the sunshades for the side windows, rear window and panoramic glass sunroof close and the ambient lighting in the rear cabin dims. The only thing missing is the popcorn popper and 32-ounce soft drinks.
In addition to the i7, the 7 Series will come with two other drivetrains, the 740i powered by a twin-turbo V6, and the 760i xDrive that features a twin-turbo V8 that comes paired with 48V mild hybrid e-motor that's housed in the car's 8-speed automatic transmission.
All the cool tech, looks, and features do come at a cost, however. The i7 xDrive60 starts at $119,300, with the base 740i starting at $93,000, and the 760i xDrive mild hybrid rounding out at $113,600.
Customers can pre-order the BMW i7 with a $1,500 deposit on the BMW website.
