Their ninth studio album, entitled One More Time, was announced on September 18 after posters with the album’s name and a smiley face went up in major cities across the globe, making everyone wonder what it was referring to.
The album, the first from Blink-182 in 12 years, is set to be released on October 20, following the major reunion tour the trio went on earlier this year.
As a warm-up, the trio released a music video to accompany the new track One More Time, in which they perform the song in a room alongside clips from their music videos and performances.
Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge take turns singing the verse, with the lyrics being honest reflections on times when the three friends should have supported each other better instead of waiting for devastating life events to bring them back together.
The lyrics share: “I wish they told us, it shouldn't take a sickness, Or airplanes falling out the sky,
“Do I have to die to hear you miss me? Do I have to die to hear you say goodbye? I don't want to act like there's tomorrow. I don't want to wait to do this one more time.”
The lyrics are referring to the time Travis Barker’s plane crashed in 2008 and to Mark Hoppus’s cancer diagnosis in 2021, which prompted the band to resolve their issues and get back together.
The song goes onto confess: “I miss you, took time but I admit, It still hurts even after all these years, And I know that next time ain’t always gonna happen, I gotta say I love you while we’re here.”
The band’s second track from the album, More Than You Know, was released with a lyric video. In it the band open up further, sharing: “I don’t feel pain, But I feel more than you’d ever know. I don’t feel shame. I don’t have highs but I’ve got some lows.”
