Half-price specials: Best Woolworths, Coles deals this week

Woolworths and Coles sell a range of products for 50%-off each week.

The supermarkets do not make much profit on these items, but they are there as "loss leaders" – a lure to bring customers in. Coles and Woolworths are each anticipating that the shopper will buy other full-priced items once they're in the store.

The half-price deals also help the retailers combat the threat of Aldi. The German challenger also has weekly offers, but the groceries are never discounted down to 50% – although they do start from a lower normal price.

Yahoo Finance has once again cruised through the aisles to pick out this week's most tempting half-price deals. Seeing them listed side-by-side here will allow you to choose which supermarket to head to for your grocery shop this week:
