Best Woolworths, Coles half-price specials this week

Coles and Woolworths is at it again with their half-price specials. (Images: Coles, Woolworths, AAP)

Woolworths and Coles slash prices by half on selected grocery products.

The "loss leaders", as they are termed in the industry, are not designed to make money for the supermarkets. Their aim is to get shoppers into through the door so they end up doing their entire weekly shop, which will include plenty of other full-price items.

The 50%-off specials also distinguish Coles and Woolworths from fast-rising challenger Aldi. Even though the budget supermarket has its own weekly deals, the discounts are nowhere near as steep as half-price.

Yahoo Finance has again pushed the trolley through the aisles to pick out the most tempting half-price deals from both supermarket chains. The items listed below are selling for half-price from Wednesday December 11 to Tuesday December 17:

Woolworths: best half-price deals

There is one deal at Woolworths that's not a half-price deal but works out to be better than that:

Each pack of capsules is $8.40, meaning it would cost $50.40 to buy six. The free coffee machine is valued at $99, meaning it's better than a 50%-off deal.
