We tried 4 viral phone-cleaning hacks to see what really works best — here's what happened

What’s the best way to clean a phone screen, really?

As any techie will know, there’s plenty of advice online, but a lot of it’s conflicting. Some experts swear by disinfectant wipes, while others suggested cotton swabs or a microfiber cloth.

Meanwhile, TikTok has its own take. Enter PhoneSoap: the cult-favorite cleaner among users on the app. The company offers all kinds of high-tech devices, some of which will even charge your phone while sanitizing it.

Here at In The Know, we love a clean screen. So, to find out the best option, we put PhoneSoap’s most affordable product, the $8 PhoneSoap Shine, against three other popular methods:

How well does PhoneSoap work?

Right off the bat, it’s worth noting that many PhoneSoap products use UV light to clean your gadgets. Meanwhile, we kept things affordable with the Shine.

The Shine is, in essence, an all-in-one cleaner. The tiny, compact tool comes filled with cleaning liquid, and its surface is a tough, durable microfiber cloth. It’s easy, convenient, and for $8, it’s pretty affordable.

We measured that stat with the help of our handy, dandy microscope, the Wireless Digital Microscope from T TAKMLY.

What’s the best way to clean your phone screen?

Ultimately, the PhoneSoap Shine was our second-place winner in terms of cleanliness. Our TikTok product just barely lost to the microfiber cloth, which ultimately gave us the best clean.

The microfiber cloth was fast, easy to use and, even under a microscope, seemed to wipe away the globs of grease we smacked on the screen for each test.

Rounding out our competition, our disinfectant wipes came in second, and, as you might expect, the T-shirt placed last.

Final verdict?

However, we’re ultimately judging for value here. When including price, the microfiber cloth was still our best option, giving a top-notch clean for just about $7.

The disinfectant wipes came in second here, doing a decent job for a solidly cheap price. The PhoneSoap Shine, our most expensive option, tied with the. T-shirt when it came to bang for your buck.

The other PhoneSoap products that have gone so viral on TikTok do a much better job than these simple, hands-on methods. That said, if you don’t want to break the bank, we’d suggest starting with the microfiber.

These charging accessories are a serious game-changer:
