For entrepreneurs looking for the best place to set up their new venture, London is the place to be.

That’s according to research by global moving platform Movinga, which ranked 75 cities in the world according to popularity based on how easy it is to start three types of businesses: restaurants, tech/digital ventures, and import/export businesses.

Overall, the best city in the world to be an entrepreneur is London, followed by Barcelona and New York.

Singapore came in fourth place, followed by Amsterdam, Vancouver, Los Angeles and Kuala Lumpur.

The first Australian city to feature on the overall list was Sydney at ninth place, with Istanbul rounding out the top 10. Melbourne was the other Australian city on the index, ranking highly at 14th place.

Those seeking to launch a tech/digital start-up specifically should find home base in San Francisco – where Silicon Valley giants such as Facebook are based – then London and New York.

Budding restaurateurs will have the best luck in Portugal’s Lisbon, and then Barcelona followed by Istanbul.

Entrepreneurs looking to dabble in the import/export industry should seek to be in Singapore, Shanghai, and Amsterdam.

Aussie tech entrepreneurs and restaurateurs looking to set up a new venture in their home country should preference Sydney, while import/export business entrepreneurs should head to Melbourne.
