These are the best carry-on bags, according to editors who travel a lot

As someone who travels at least once a month, my carry-on has seen it all. It’s in pretty rough shape — and that’s why I’ve decided it’s time for a new one. Luckily, I work with a team of experts, so I asked my coworkers for their best carry-on recommendations. They did not disappoint.

In The Know editors have definitely been lucky to travel quite a bit this year, from beach trips with family to Mexico for a romantic getaway. But in between each trip, our team has tried and tested a lot of luggage. That’s why I knew this was the group to ask — these are experts that I trust.

As for myself, I recently tested a ROAM Flexi Duffel, which is perfect for road trips. It has straps to convert it from a large duffel to a backpack, and you can customize the exterior colors. My boyfriend has started using it for his work trips, too. It’s a really great bag.

The only problem is that if I’m going to the airport, I need a carry-on with wheels. I recently got a puppy I plan to travel with this holiday season, and I want to attach his carrier to the top of the carry-on so we can glide to the gate. However, even without the dog, wheels are nice when your gate is far from the airport exit.

All things considered, I’ve had my eye on the Beis Soft-Sided Collapsible Carry-On Roller ($198) and the July Carry-On Light ($245) — both are supposed to be pretty lightweight. However, each editor on the In The Know team has their own opinion as to which carry-on bag is the best, and these recommendations definitely have me thinking.

1. Monos Hybrid Carry-On, $325

“When I travel, I prefer a protective, hard side carry-on with a minimal design and wheels that glide seamlessly. For me, the Monos Hybrid Carry-On checks all of those boxes. What I ended up unexpectedly loving most about it, though, is its zipperless design. Instead of a zipper, it has two TSA-approved locks on the side that keeps the suitcase much more secure with a sleeker, cleaner and much more premium look.” — Moriba Cummings, Senior Shopping Editor

2. AWAY – The Carry-On, $275

“I love the simple, sleek look and design of AWAY’s Carry-on, and it comes in really good colors. The bag itself is lightweight and the inside is spacious enough for me to fit enough clothes for a week-long trip. What I love most, though, is how beautifully the wheels glide. They roll so smoothly that I have to use almost no effort at all to roll or push the bag. I know it’s expensive, but for people who travel a lot, it’s definitely worth the investment.” — Jeanine Edwards, Shopping Director

3. Calpak Luka Duffel, $96 (Orig. $120)

$96 $120 at Calpak

“The Luka Duffel from Calpak has quickly become my go-to bag to take with me on any kind of trip. It’s so thoughtfully designed that I can easily use it as a personal item on the plane to hold my laptop and other essentials, but it’s also large enough to be used as a weekender if needed. It has nine pockets (including a separate one for shoes) as well as a trolley pass through so popping it on top of rolling luggage is a breeze.” — Julia Webb, Senior Shopping Editor

“I don’t know how I ever traveled before my Luka. Not only are there so many fun colors to choose from, I have seriously fit everything from three impulsive airport bookstore buys to chunky booties, my laptop and an entire outfit change.

My secret packing recipe also includes the Luka Belt Bag (in a matching color, because why not?). It won’t get clocked by the TSA as an extra personal item if you’re wearing it and is perfect for holding your phone, hand sanitizer and your very important in-flight skin care routine.” — Sarah Weldon, Senior Shopping Editor
