Phi Theta Kappa Honor Roll Recognition Highlights Schools With Proven Success Outcomes
Phi Theta Kappa has named Bellevue University, one of the nation’s leaders in preparing students for lifelong career success with career-relevant knowledge and skills, to its prestigious 2021 Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Roll.
The Honor Roll recognizes the top four-year colleges and universities nationwide for creating dynamic and innovative pathways to support community college students.
Bellevue University was the only Nebraska institution recognized on the Honor Roll and one of 150 institutions recognized nationwide.
According to Phi Theta Kappa, colleges were selected based on their Transfer Friendliness Rating, which is determined by the online profile the college creates in PTK Connect. PTK Connect is Phi Theta Kappa’s online tool that helps students find their best-fit colleges, career pathways and more. The tool includes specific information about admissions practices, cost of attendance, campus life, recruitment practices and peer reviews and reflects the transfer student experience at specific colleges. The top 25% highest-rated colleges are named to the PTK Transfer Honor Roll.
Dr. Mary Hawkins, Bellevue University President, noted that Phi Theta Kappa is important in encouraging and recognizing the scholarship of community college students. "Through the Honor Roll, Phi Theta Kappa recognizes the commitment Bellevue University makes to help community college graduates advance and build on their success by completing their bachelor’s degrees."
"After helping more than 20,000 community college transfer students earn their bachelor’s degrees, our experience confirms that our most successful students are those who first earn an associate degree," said Dr. Hawkins. She added that Bellevue University partners with a nationwide network of community colleges to "support their commitment to building workforce-ready talent."
"The Transfer Honor Roll reflects the growing importance of recognizing and responding to the needs of transfer students," Phi Theta Kappa President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner said. "This award is given to four-year colleges and universities with proven outcomes for transfer success. They are the best at providing a supportive and smooth transition from community college — equating to increased rates of bachelor’s degree attainment for transfer students."
