Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce will meet with Queensland cane farmers this weekend to discuss their ongoing dispute with international agribusiness Wilmar Sugar.
Mr Joyce will visit the north Queensland towns of Ingham on Saturday and Ayr on Sunday.
He will be joined by state LNP opposition leader Tim Nicholls on Sunday, along with federal MP George Christensen, whose electorate encompasses the town of Ayr.
About 1500 farmers are concerned for their livelihoods after the sector failed to reach an agreement with Wilmar Sugar over marketing of their produce ahead of the 2017 crush.
The Canegrowers industry said it also wanted to see amendments to Queensland's Sugar Industry Act, something the LNP has promised to introduce to parliament later this month.
