Report: Ravens CB Jimmy Smith, family safe after being robbed at gunpoint in Los Angeles

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith and his family are safe after they were apparently robbed at gunpoint at a Los Angeles hotel on Tuesday.

Smith and his family landed at the Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday night, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, and were followed to their hotel. Once there, per the report, they were allegedly robbed at gunpoint.

Specifics about the incident are not yet clear, though neither Smith nor his family were hurt. According to the Ravens, Smith’s three young children were with him at the time.

“We are aware of the situation involving Jimmy Smith,” the team said in a brief statement on Friday. “We have spoken with Jimmy and he and his family are safe.”

Smith recorded 27 total tackles and recovered a fumble last season with the Ravens, his 10th season in the league after the team selected him with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2011 draft. The 32-year-old signed a one-year extension with Baltimore, and is set to make at least $2 million next season.
