Universities in the US dominate in terms of producing wealthy graduates, new research shows.

But outside of the US, which has the advantage of top Ivy League schools like Harvard and Yale, four Aussie universities are producing similarly rich grads, according to Wealth X’s University Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) Alumni Rankings report.

The report looks at the total number of UHNW individuals (individuals with a net worth of more than US$30 million [AU$44 million]) known to have a degree from these institutions, and makes an estimate on the number of UHNW grads in the total global population.

So which Australian universities produce the richest grads?

Sitting amongst the likes of Cambridge and Oxford University are:

  3. Monash University

  4. University of Melbourne

UNSW comes 15th in the top 20 non-US universities by number of UHNW grads, and is 43rd globally.

It’s estimated that UNSW produced 575 UHNW grads, who hold a combined wealth of a whopping US$183 billion.

Coming in at 16th is the University of Sydney, which is 44th globally. There are an estimated 550 UHNW graduates with a combined wealth of US$126 billion.

Monash and the University of Melbourne came in at 19th and 20th, and 47th and 48th globally respectively.

Monash is estimated to have produced 405 UHNW grads with a total combined wealth of US$46 billion, while 375 UHNW grads are estimated to have come out of the UniversiTy of Melbourne, with a combined wealth of US$104 billion.

Which global universities produce the richest grads?

The university that produces the most rich grads is Harvard University, with an estimated 13,650 Harvard grads roaming the world. All up, these rich graduates command a total net worth of US$4.7 trillion.

Stanford University is next, followed by the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University and New York University.

Cambridge, Yale, Oxford, Princeton, and French university INSEAD (Institut Européen d'Administration des Affaires) also make the global top 20.
