The Aussie at the centre of the Meghan Markle tell-all

The eyes of the world were on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry today as they sat down with Oprah to reveal some startling allegations about the royal family.

And while the bombshells coming from the former duchess certainly took centre stage, there was one Aussie quietly sharing the spotlight for a different reason.

Australian luxury furniture designer and co-owner of Coco Republic, Anthony Spon Smith, was thrilled to see a coffee table and side tables he designed for American company Restoration Hardware, right in the thick of the action.

Sharing a screenshot from the ground-breaking broadcast on Instagram, Spon Smith joked, “The controversy literally surrounding my Prado Coffee table for RH isn’t about the design of it... happy to have it on the ‘interview of the year’ tho!”

The Prado outdoor coffee table is made of weathered teak retails for USD$2,095, while the matching geometric side tables go for USD$835 each, but they unfortunately do not belong to either the Sussexes or Oprah as the interview was filmed at the California home of Oprah’s close friend, journalist Gayle King.

The luxurious setting drew the attention of viewers however, some of whom took to social media to ask about the furniture.

"This is cracking me up. Everyone watching this monumental interview and we're talking about Meghan's shoes, the chairs and the rug," one person said in a Facebook group, to which someone replied, "I was thinking rug, chairs, table and planters, I want it all," and another added, "I want the table!"

Unfortunately, Spon Smith’s designs are exclusive to the US, but we’ve found some similar looking coffee tables if you want to recreate the look at your place.

Designed by Spon Smith's Australian company Coco Republic, this indoor or outdoor coffee table is low to the ground and with the same grey colouring, but is made of solid concrete. It would pair well with other teak furniture however. Photo: Coco Republic
