Australia’s 10 poorest postcodes revealed

Australia’s 10 poorest postcodes revealed

Of Australia’s 10 poorest postcodes, seven are also located in New South Wales, two in Queensland and one in Victoria.

According to the latest data from the ATO, Australia’s poorest people live in rural NSW town, with an average taxable income more that eight times lower than that of our richest in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

The postcode with the lowest average income of $21,691 is 2403 – the small rural north eastern NSW town of Delungra, and its surrounding suburbs Gragin and Myall Creek.

The second, third, fourth and fifth spots on the list are all also located in close proximity to Delungra in rural north eastern NSW.

Queensland’s first entry on the list is located about 230km north-west of the state’s capital city, Brisbane.

4613 comprises 10 small towns in the area – Abbeywood, Melrose, Okeden, Proston, Speedwell, Boondooma, Brigooda, Coverty, Kinleymore and Stalworth.

Victoria’s first, and only, entry is unsurprisingly, another rural area approximately 250km north of Melbourne’s city centre - Waaia and Yalca.
