Aust shares start the day lower

Australian shares are lower as investors await the US Federal Reserve's next interest rate decision

The Australian share market has started the trading day more than a quarter of a per cent lower with the big miners and energy companies hit especially.

At 1015 AEST on Wednesday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 19.7 points, or 0.33 per cent, at 6,034.7, while the broader All Ordinaries index down 18.0 points, or 0.29 per cent, at 6,146.8 points.

In futures trading, the SPI200 futures contract was down 8.0 points, or 0.13 per cent, at 6,047 points.
