Aust shares close slightly lower

The Australian share market has closed vitually flat, largely recovering from its intraday slide after data showing unemployment at a 12-year high.

At the close on Thursday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 3.0 points, or 0.05 per cent, lower at 5,509.0, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 3.3 points, or 0.06 per cent, at 5,500.7, according to preliminary figures.

On the ASX 24, the September share price index futures contract was eight points lower at 5,450, with 24,244 contracts traded.
