Aussies outraged after bank outage: ‘Please explain’
The Osko payments service has experienced an industry-wide outage, and it’s left Aussies without pay and money.
All the major Australian banks, including Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, ANZ and NAB, faced major delays sending and receiving money through the Osko payments system.
Osko payments are typically sent and received to participating banks within seconds.

The Reserve Bank of Australia has admitted fault for the outage.
"The RBA experienced an internal system engineering issue yesterday evening," the bank tweeted.
"The issue has now been contained. Impacted external services are now operational however there has been some delay to overnight processing of payments."
The issues started around 7:00pm on Wednesday and the problem was reportedly fixed around 3:00am today.
ANZ alerted customers of the issues on Wednesday evening.
“The processing of some payments may be delayed and some payments may fail,” it told customers.

ANZ told customers they would receive refunds for failed payments, but did not provide any information on when this would occur.
“Failed payments will need to be resubmitted upon refund appearing in your account,” it said on Twitter.
Commonwealth Bank alerted customers of the issues on its mobile banking app.
“Customers are advised not to retry the transactions,” it said.
ING told customers it was currently “processing the backlog of payments” and said it expected payments to be “processed and received by close of business today”.
NAB told one customer it had “no ETA on when the payments will be processed”.
Aussies left without pay
Aussie customers took to social media to express their frustration, with many people saying payments had left their accounts but had not been received, or that they were missing their pay.
“My salary is not in my account and that has nothing to do with Osko or PayID, please explain?” one user tweeted.
“I got Osko paid money at 8 last night and still nothing at 8 this morning 12 hours later,” another person tweeted.
@StGeorgeBank where is my pay?! My employer transferred funds yesterday not via osko, meant to hit my account this morning like it always dies every fortnight and funds are not in account!!

Customers also asked if they would be refunded dishonour fees as a result of their direct debits failing.
“Are you going to reverse and pay any fees I’m charged as a result of the Osko outage and my direct debit failing and being charged fees by them?” one person tweeted ING.
“Just wondering if you will be reimbursing customers for dishonour fees for debits being rejected that would have been paid if the funds were in our accounts? My salary is paid via osko, so through no fault of my own, I am getting dishonour fees charged by you,” another person tweeted Commonwealth Bank.
