ASX: The local share market is expected to rise this morning after US stocks rose overnight.

Savings: The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has been asked to look into interest rates for savers amid concerns banks aren’t offering their customers a fair deal.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers urged the consumer watchdog to investigate the matter, noting savers should be seeing higher interest rates than they are.

Green money: Nine out of 10 households would save hundreds of dollars each year and slash their greenhouse gas emissions by swapping their petrol car for an electric vehicle, according to a new US study.

In some instances, driving an EV could cut household bills by more than $860. However, the study also found 8 per cent of the population would not see savings from switching to an electric car due to high electricity prices, weather conditions or low incomes.

Hack attack: The personal details of firefighters are expected to be among information released on the dark web by hackers who breached Fire Rescue Victoria's IT system.

It is believed the cyber criminals who attacked the emergency rescue agency's IT system late last year accessed the personal information of staff.

Female friendly: On the subject of firefighters, seven fire stations lacking dedicated female amenities will be upgraded to encourage more women to join the male-dominated Fire & Rescue NSW.

The addition of private showers, toilets and change rooms for female personnel would remove a "huge barrier", NSW Treasurer Matt Kean said.

Love sub: A former chief of the Australian Navy is under fire for taking his girlfriend for a ride on a military submarine and proposing to her.

The Vice-Admiral used his position to grant his partner approval to board the HMAS Waller in June last year. The Defence Department has said no rules were broken but it was "not routine" as civilians were not commonly invited on such trips.

Cyber ‘incident’: Royal Mail in the United Kingdom said it was facing severe disruption to its international export services following what it described as "a cyber incident".

It advised customers to temporarily hold any export mail items while it worked to resolve the issue.
