ASX: The local market is expected to slip this morning after a weak session on Wall Street overnight.

This comes after the ASX had a positive session yesterday, hitting a fresh two-month high after US inflation showed signs of cooling.

Wall Street: US stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with the Nasdaq falling 0.6 per cent, the S&P 500 losing 0.1 per cent, and the Dow closing up less than 0.1 per cent in a modest stall-out from the current stock rally.

Worker crisis: Australia's teacher shortage and incentives to fix it will be front of mind when federal, state and territory education ministers meet in the nation's capital today.

Ministers are expected to discuss labour shortages, workloads, retention issues and incentives for people wanting to make a mid-career change to teaching.

Cyber crime: Business owners have been warned they could face an increased risk of cyber crime in the wake of changes to Australian internet domains.

New rules were introduced in March this year to allow anyone with a connection to Australia to register the shorter .au domain for their website, rather than the existing .com.au or .net.au.

However, those with existing Australian domains have until September to reserve their equivalent website with the shorter domain, before it would become available to the general public.

Prison strike: NSW court cases will face delays and people planning to visit someone in the state's custody will have to reschedule as prison officers go on strike today.

The strike, which started at 6:00am, was set to run for 24 hours.

The statewide stoppage will affect all areas of the correctional system, and will involve more than 5,000 workers.

Horror-moth: A wild experiment involving a light plane, the Swiss Alps and a sinister looking moth from a horror film has shed new light on one of nature's enduring mysteries.

The death's-head hawkmoth, which had a pivotal role in Silence of the Lambs, is in the headlines again. However, this time it's in the name of science.
