Assassin’s Creed is making a series of children’s books

Assassin’s Creed developer Ubisoft is partnering with Hachette Heroes to make a series of children’s books based on the hit franchise.

The children’s books will be a crossover with another series, the Mr. Men and Little Miss picture books. Writer and illustrator Adam Hargreaves, son of the late Roger Hargreaves who created the Mr. Men and Little Miss Series, will be producing the books, as reported by Polygon.

Ubisoft revealed the news in a press release.

“The most iconic heroes of the Assassin’s Creed franchise are joining the ranks of the Mister Men and Little Miss famous picture book series!” the press release stated. “By mixing the Assassin’s Creed sense of adventure and history with the colorful and delightful designs of the Little Mr. Men, these books will appeal to both young and adult readers. Follow Mister Ezio, Little Miss Kassandra, and Little Miss Eivor, as they each try to complete their own missions in the first three books of this series!”

The press release also included some art that Hargreaves has already created. They include his own depictions of Eivor Varinsdottir, Kassandra the Eagle Bearer and the overwhelming fan favorite of the Assassin’s Creed series, Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

While this is an adorable tie-in, you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s a bit strange. The Mr. Men and Little Miss series is a charming children’s book series of smiling little blobs and Assassin’s Creed is about an ongoing clandestine war. As the name suggests, there’s lots of graphic assassinations and killing involved.

However, collaborations like this are not without precedent. The original RoboCop movie was extremely violent, to a degree where contemporary movie studios wouldn’t go near today. That still didn’t stop Orion Pictures from adapting it into a children’s cartoon show.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is best known as a whacky, light-hearted Saturday morning cartoon about pizza-scarfing turtle brothers, but not many people are aware that the original TMNT comic was a dark revenge story about the four brothers cutting a bloody swarth through New York City.

Basically, there have been weirdest franchise adaptations than Assassin’s Creed x Mr. Men. Maybe this one can manage to sneak into your heart as well.
