Yahoo Finance Cardinals release Desmond Harrison after charges of strangulation, assault against woman
The Arizona Cardinals have released offensive tackle Desmond Harrison within an hour of Yahoo Sports reporting that a warrant was issued with charges of assault on a person by strangulation and assault on a female by a male.
The Cardinals have not yet responded to a request for comment on the matter.
The Greensboro, North Carolina, police department confirmed to Yahoo Sports that a felony arrest warrant has been issued for Harrison. According to police spokesman Ron Glenn, a report against Harrison was filed on Tuesday. It’s not clear when the alleged incident occurred.
The identity of the woman was not released, nor was her relationship to Harrison. It’s not known if he is a resident of the area, but Harrison spent part of his high-school years in North Carolina.
The warrant being issued was first reported by Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobieski.
Harrison, 25, was claimed off waivers by the Cardinals on June 6 after he was waived by the Cleveland Browns. As a rookie, Harrison started the first eight games for the Browns at left tackle before getting benched and was later waived after the season, reportedly for missing team meetings and being unreliable in the eyes of the Browns.
Harrison bounced around in college, with stops at Texas — where he was suspended three times in one year — and West Georgia. He went undrafted despite strong pre-draft workouts.
Just a month ago Harrison told the Cardinals’ official website that he hoped to be more dependable with his second NFL team.
“I’ll just show that with my actions,” Harrison said. “My guys are going to hold me accountable, as well as the coaches.”
