Apple iPhone7 launch: seven things to expect

Apple iPhone7 launch: seven things to expect

Launch of the new iPhone7 isn’t anticipated until later in 2016 but rumors have already been trickling out on details we might expect to see when the new device is released.

The highly-anticipated new Apple iPhone7 and iPhone7 Plus is expected to be released in September this year. But what will the smartphone look like, and what new features will it come with?

Here are seven things we can expect:

Three size options

The new Apple iPhone is expected to be released in two sizes – Tech experts expect a 4.7-inch phone (the iPhone 7), and a 5.5-inch model (the iPhone 7 Plus) – alongside a smaller four-inch version (the iPhone mini or 7c) of the iconic mobile device.

No headphone jack

Several rumors have suggested Apple plans to nix the headphone jack and instead introduce a Lightning port that will support both charging and music playback with Lightning-equipped headphones.

In addition to allowing Apple to shave some thickness off of the iPhone 7 and saving valuable internal space, requiring headphones to connect through the Lightning port will boost overall audio quality.

New thinner design

The iPhone 7 is expected to be thinner than the iPhone 6s, with Apple using the elimination of the headphone jack and advances in in-cell panel technology to make the iPhone 7 slimmer, perhaps as thin as the iPod touch.

Rumors suggest the iPhone 7 will be between 6.0mm and 6.5mm.

Waterproofing

Many have speculated that the new handsets will be made out of a new composit material – such as sapphire glass and/or gorilla glass – that improves the water and shatter resistance of the device.

Higher resolution screen

Apple is expected to be moving towards better resolutions with the release of its iPhone7 and iPhone7 Plus display – not just more pixels to account for the additional screen space, but also an actual higher pixel density.

Improved battery life

The manufacturer is also expected to boost the battery life of its new handsets, owing not only to a larger battery but also to updated software and improve resolution.

Bigger storage

Many hope and expect the iPhone 7 Plus to start at 32GB, with further 64GB and 128GB options.

One rumor suggests that the 7 Plus may even go as high as 256GB – an additional option that the iPhone 7 will miss out on.
