Another tag: Coming off career season, Steelers name linebacker Bud Dupree franchise player

The Pittsburgh Steelers saw 2015 first-round pick Bud Dupree blossom in 2019, when he posted career highs across several categories.

And on Monday, Pittsburgh rewarded Dupree with ... the franchise tag.

Double-digit sacks

The 22nd overall pick five years ago, Dupree recorded 11.5 sacks, 68 total tackles, 17 quarterback hits, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. All of those were improvements on his previous season highs.

At the Steelers’ season-ending media conference, coach Mike Tomlin said keeping Dupree was “a priority” for the team.

If Dupree signs the tag, his representatives and the Steelers have until July 15 to come to an agreement on a long-term extension. If Dupree plays the 2020 season under the tag, he will earn $16.1 million.

Dupree is one of 11 players who have been franchised thus far by their respective teams.
