Even though it is helpful to be aware of the growth rate year by year relative to today’s figure, it may be more insightful determining the rate at which the business is growing every year, on average. The advantage of this method is that it removes the impact of near term flucuations and accounts for the overarching direction of Qantas Airways’s earnings trajectory over time, be more volatile. To calculate this rate, I put a line of best fit through the forecasted earnings by market analysts. The slope of this line is the rate of earnings growth, which in this case is 0.7%. This means, we can presume Qantas Airways will grow its earnings by 0.7% every year for the next few years.
