AMD's Desktop CPUs to Aid Enterprises Boost Productivity

Advanced Micro Devices AMD recently rolled out the latest lineup of Ryzen PRO 3000 Series desktop processors.

The company also announced availability of Athlon PRO and Ryzen PRO 3000 CPUs integrated with Radeon Vega Graphics capabilities.

The latest processors are integrated with high-performance, power-efficient, and embedded security features including full system memory encryption. This enables enterprises to accelerate business processes and enhance workspace productivity.

Notably, new enterprise desktops from PC vendors including Lenovo ThinkCentre and HP EliteDesk 705 G5 Series featuring AMD’s latest processors will be available from fourth-quarter of 2019.

Coming to the price performance, shares of AMD have gained 57% year to date, outperforming industry’s rally of 20.1%.

Robust Competitive Features to Boost Adoption

AMD Ryzen PRO processors are integrated with embedded co-processor, which supports the company’s GuardMI technology, to aid users in securing their PC systems. Meanwhile, AMD Memory Guard5 featuring full system memory encryption protects PCs from cold boot attacks.

Notably, Ryzen 9 PRO 3900, Ryzen 7 PRO 3700, and Ryzen 5 PRO 3600 are developed on AMD’s 7nm Zen 2 core architecture. Moreover, the three latest processors feature thermal design power (or TDP) of 65 W.

Per the company’s estimates under set conditions, Ryzen 7 PRO 3700 and Ryzen 9 PRO 3900 deliver “up to 2X faster performance” when compared with competitive processors at the same power.

Further, according to AMD’s estimates, Ryzen PRO processors provide up to 127% faster data-crunching when compared with competitive processors including Intel’s INTC Core i7-9700.

Additionally, the latest third generation AMD Ryzen 9 PRO 3900 processor features 24 threads and 12 cores. Higher core counts of these processors are anticipated to provide AMD a competitive edge against Intel in the high-end desktop market.

Latest Trends Favor Business Prospects

Emergence of high-end cloud computing, thinner desktops, and demand for fast processing among enterprises is expected to bode well for AMD’s latest CPUs. This in turn will help AMD increase market share against Intel, in the days ahead.

Enterprises are increasingly adopting digital transformation techniques to automate and accelerate business processes. This calls for robust high-performance CPUs to facilitate the complex workloads, reduce total cost of ownership and improve workspace productivity.

Adoption of AMD’s latest CPUs in high-end desktops from leading PC vendors including Lenovo and HP, is a testament to its efficiency.

Moreover, per Gartner’s preliminary data, PC shipments in the second quarter improved 1.5% year over year to 63 million units. Going by the IDC report, shipment rose 4.7% on a year-over-year basis and totaled 64.9 million in the period under review. An improving trend in PC shipments favors business prospects of AMD’s CPU offerings.
