Yahoo Finance Amazon will stream WNBA games in 2021 as part of a multi-year deal
It's Amazon's first foray into pro basketball streaming.
Amazon has signed a multi-year deal with the Women's National Basketball Association that will see it stream games live on Prime Video, the WNBA has announced. The partnership includes exclusive global streaming rights for 16 regular season WNBA games plus the inaugural Commissioner's Cup championship game slated for August 12th at Phoenix Suns Arena.
The deal marks Amazon's first foray into pro basketball after streaming regular season Major League Baseball, NFL and MLS games. The games will be available in most Prime Video markets, unfortunately excluding China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Finland, and Germany.
As part of its Amazon deal, the league just announced the Commissioner's Cup, with a championship game that "will be the culmination of the WNBA’s first annual, in-season competition." Amazon will stream nine of the games that feature in the competition, then the championship game "will be presented exclusively on Prime Video on August 12th," according to the league.
WNBA games are also streaming on Twitter, Facebook and Paramount+ this summer, and the league is working with Google on its "Changemakers" marketing initiative.
