Amazon (AMZN) is kicking off its Black Friday deals in the UK early this year because it wants to give customers the chance to “save big” ahead of the holiday season.

This year Black Friday falls on 26 November but Amazon’s sale will start on 8 November with discounts of up to 40% off across all categories the retail giant offers, including fashion, home, beauty, toys, electronics.

This comes as Brits are set to shun the high street this Black Friday, with 85% planning to spend online during this year’s November discount shopping event.

Amazon consumers can also get up to 45% off popular Amazon devices, like the Echo and Kindle.

Black Friday began in the US, and it marks the start of the post-Thanksgiving sales. Amazon brought the concept to the UK in 2010 and it has since become a major shopping event in the country.

This year, Amazon is looking to boost small businesses, which have taken a major hit during the pandemic.

It said there are thousands of deals available from small business partners and handmade artisans throughout the holiday season.

Top-trending gifts and stocking fillers from small businesses selling on Amazon can be found in the Support Small Storefront, where customers can support local small businesses and shop by region.

Customers can also explore a wide selection of gift ideas on its Small Business Gift Finder.

In addition, on select days throughout November, top brands such as Bosch, Shark, Oral-B, KitchenAid and Sony will offer limited-time offers.

There are also deals on entertainment. For a limited time, Prime Video customers can get up to 50% off movies and TV shows to rent or buy through Prime Video including Little Women, Harry Potter, and Chicago Fire.

Kindle customers will have access to books on offer, including Roald Dahl’s Glorious Galumptious Story Collection and a range of Elmer books by David McKee.

New Audible customers can get three months of membership for just 99p and enjoy unlimited listening of select Audible Originals, podcasts, and audiobooks.

John Lewis, Argos, Currys and Lakeland are also set to offer Black Friday discounts as Brits favour online shopping over brick-and-mortar shops due to coronavirus fears.

85% said they intend to shop exclusively online or a mix of online and in-store this year with just 0.3% spending exclusively on the high street, as per a survey by money.co.uk.

Half said they would shop exclusively online this year, with a further 35% saying they would do the majority of their Black Friday bargain hunting online.

Over three quarters (77%) of UK adults are planning to bag a bargain during this year’s Black Friday bonanza, the survey found.
