Liverpool will be looking to put the disappointment of losing Virgil van Dijk to a long-term injury behind them when they face Ajax on Wednesday night.

These two teams both finished top of their respective leagues last season, though Ajax were not crowned Eredivisie champions as the competition was officially ended early without promotion, relegation or winners.

The Reds drew in the Merseyside derby at the weekend and are without a host of key players at present, but are expected to be among the favourites as the Champions League progresses.

Ajax have won four of their five league games so far this term, including a 5-1 victory over Heerenveen at the weekend.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the match.

When is the match?

The game kicks off at 8pm on Wednesday, 21 October.

Where can I watch it?

The match will be shown live on BT Sport 2. Subscribers can also stream the match via the BT Sport website or app.

What is the team news?

The Dutch side should have an almost fully fit squad to choose from and could make a few changes from the weekend game, but forward Antony is out.

Liverpool are without the aforementioned Van Dijk, as well as goalkeeper Alisson, new midfielder Thiago Alcantara, centre-back Joel Matip and left-back Kostas Tsimikas. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also a longer-term absentee. Naby Keita should be in the squad, however, after missing the weekend game.

Confirmed line-ups

Ajax XI: Onana; Mazraoui, Schuurs, Blind, Tagliafico; Klaassen, Kudus, Martínez; Gravenberch, Tadic, Neres.

Liverpool XI: Adrián; Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Gomez, Robertson; Milner, Jones, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Sadio Mané

Odds
