Yahoo Finance Aaron Rodgers isn't worried about Packers drafting a QB, but he doesn't seem to prefer it
The Green Bay Packers drafting a quarterback in the first round is humorous when you consider how Aaron Rodgers’ NFL career began.
The first part of Rodgers’ career was defined by an uneasy relationship with Brett Favre after the Packers took Rodgers in the first round. Rodgers took over for Favre eventually. Rodgers knows how it works better than anyone.
This year, there has been scuttlebutt that the Packers could take a quarterback, perhaps in the first round. They haven’t shot down that idea. Who knows if the opportunity will present itself, but Rodgers is prepared for it either way.

Rodgers appeared on ESPN Milwaukee radio and addressed the possibility of the Packers using a high pick on a quarterback. He didn’t sound too bothered.
“I’m a realist; I know where we’re at as an organization and I know where I’m at my career,” Rodgers said, via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.
Rodgers said he would like for the team to bring in players who could “come in and help us right away.” That fits with the attitude of practically every great veteran quarterback whose team is eyeing a first-round quarterback. Rodgers will turn 37 in December.
Rodgers also had a defiant comment about the possibility of a rookie coming in.
“I’m confident [he is] not going to beat me out anytime soon,” Rodgers said.
Favre might have had a similar thought when the Packers drafted Rodgers.
Packers playing for now or future?
The Packers are in a tricky spot. Rodgers is still their best option, and they are coming off a trip to the NFC championship game. An impact receiver in the first round would help Green Bay more now (and there are plenty, check out Eric Edholm’s latest mock draft). A quarterback late in the first round could help the inevitable transition when Rodgers is ready to retire.
The Packers have been criticized for not doing enough to get back to the Super Bowl with Rodgers in his prime. Former general manager Ted Thompson practically ignored free agency. The team has been a lot more aggressive under new GM Brian Gutekunst, but he has to be pragmatic about the big picture.
If the Packers do decide to invest in the future at quarterback, the move should feel familiar to Rodgers.
