Aaron Jones reveals what it's like playing with Aaron Rodgers, experience growing up in a military family

Since 2011, the NFL and partner USAA have worked together to honor active-duty military, veterans and their loved ones through the Salute to Service program. As the son of parents with nearly 60 years of combined military experience, this initiative is especially meaningful to Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones.

Though he opted to pursue a path different, Jones nonetheless carried over some of the same principles of hard work and discipline taught in the armed forces to his endeavors on the field.

“At the time when your parents are overseas, you always have the fear they’ll never come back,” the 25-year-old said exclusively to Yahoo Sports. “But, if you stand tall in your faith and you keep God first, then you’ll be able to overcome any adversities.”

“For those in a similar position of moving around every couple years, I would encourage them to look on the bright side and learn to adapt to different cultures. It can be difficult with parents or other family members being deployed, but it’s important to keep both your head and faith up. Don’t be afraid to speak with someone going through a similar situation, either. That also helps.”

Jones revealed what it’s like playing with Aaron Rodgers

Few are offered the opportunity to suit up alongside future Hall-of-Famer quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rumored to possess a prickly personality, Jones cleared the air on those speculations and had nothing but positive sentiments for his often-misunderstood teammate.

“He really cares for each and every person in the huddle,” the Georgia native said. “You may not see it everyday because there’s so much going on. But when you have a moment to interact with him, he gives you his undivided attention and I think that’s special coming from our leader. When you’re learning from a guy like that who works hard to instill confidence in you, it’s going to do nothing but wonders for your game and personal growth. In my opinion he’s only getting better and I’m excited to see how we finish the season.”

Ahead of the 2020 NFL season, sports performance equipment brand Oakley recently welcomed Jones as an ambassador, citing the fourth-year starter’s influential and steadfast leadership as motivation for signing him alongside the likes of Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. Jones was featured in the brand’s 2020 NFL campaign We Shape The Future, honoring dominant on-field performances of Team Oakley’s football athletes and their influential and steadfast leadership off the field.
