As the decade comes to a close, it’s a good time to take a look back at how the median prices for each Australian capital city performed over the years.

According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, here are the median house prices of every state between December 2010 and June 2019:

The median Sydney house price saw the biggest jump between December 2014 and December 2015, where it rose over $100,000.

It continued to climb to a decade-high of $1,030,000 in December 2017, but since declined to $875,000 at June this year.

The Melbourne median house price rose around $60,000 between December 2014 and December 2015, and continued to rise to a decade-high of $750,300 in 2017.

As of June 2019, the median house price was $680,000.

The Adelaide median house price did not see the same major jump as Sydney and Melbourne, but has continued to climb steadily.

As of June 2019, the median house price in Adelaide is $470,000.

The median house price in Canberra saw a jump between December 2014 and December 2015 of $45,000.

It saw an ever larger rise between December 2016 and December 2017, where it increased by $54,000.

As of June 2019, the median house price is $714,000.

The median house price in Brisbane has continued to climb steadily, hitting a decade-high of $540,000 in December 2018.

As of June 2019, the median house price was $535,000.

While most states experienced a rise in the median house price between December 2014 and December 2015, Perth’s median house price actually dropped by $6,000.

The median house price in Perth in June this year was $480,000 - the same as prices in 2011.

Similar to Perth, Darwin also saw a median house price drop of $6,000 over the 12 months to December 2015.

As of June this year, house prices in Darwin are at a decade-low: $478,000.

The median house price in Hobart has continued to climb, reaching a decade-high of $490,000 in June this year.
